What is LAMO?
LAMO is a non-profit
education organization, established in 2000 for the purpose of applying
for a FM radio station to serve the Latino community of Lebanon,
Pennsylvania. The Federal Communications Commission specified that
applications for such frequencies could only be made by non-profit
educational organizations such as LAMO. The construction permit to
build the radio station was issued July 1, 2003.
Tell me about the radio station….
LAMO operates the
radio station, as the "license holder". The position on the dial is
93.1 FM and the coverage area is all of Lebanon City and a good portion
of Lebanon County. The station is licensed to be on the air 24 hours a
day, seven days a week. All broadcasting is in stereo. It should be
stressed that this is a public, community based, listener supported
radio station.
What is the radio Station called and what is the programming?
The radio
station has assigned call letters of WOMA-LP (LP means low power).
However, on and off the air, the logo of the radio station is "Radio
Omega" an established name in the Hispanic community since 1998. Radio
Omega programs a variety of Latino music, along with informational and
educational programs, mainly in Spanish.
how does LAMO receive support?
LAMO receives
support to operate Radio Omega through community involvement and
financial donations from listeners and businesses. The board of
directors provides guidance and a listener’s advisory board gives
community feedback relating to programming. An executive director is
responsible for the day-to-day operations of the radio station. The key
to success however are volunteers working at Radio Omega … people who
want to and can make a difference in the Latino community of Lebanon,
Pennsylvania.
